An update that was just meant to update skins on the PlayStation store has wrecked the game for many, and there’s only a partial fix out for the problem
APEX Legends is crashing for many PlayStation users after a botched update hit the console.
The change was only meant to affect the in-game outfit offered as a free reward for PlayStation Plus members, but ended up just breaking the game instead.
First reported late last night, the developers have managed to root out one cause of the problem, but warn crashes may still occur because they have only managed to apply a "partial fix".
Posting in the game's Reddit forum, the game's Community Manager acknowledged the issue, and revealed the team at Respawn have disabled the "Pick Me Up" banner for Lifeline in an attempt to stop it happening.
Previously, the game would crash any time it tried to load that banner.
This was happening when players tried to look at their own version in the menus, viewing it if they had set it as their banner card, if a squadmate had set it as theirs, or if it was set as the champion's banner shown during the intro or in the world at large.
Now it has been disabled it won't show up in any of those places, but there are still instances where it will break your game.
If you unlock or equip the banner your game will probably still crash — so if you're on PS4 don't do either of those things, and you should be fine.
Respawn are "continuing to work on fully resolving the issue," according to the post, so hopefully a full fix should roll out soon.

It's not the first time Lifeline has caused problems — a Lithuanian Twitch streamer was recently banned for her Lifeline cosplay after she started blacking up to finish the look.
The news comes a day after EA revealed Apex Legends was going to come to mobile soon.
Apex rival Fortnite is undergoing some pretty major changes too.
Three days of teasers have given way to a full reveal for the new cyberpunky Season 9 — which should hopefully distract players from a new US law that could force both Apex Legends and Fortnite to make major changes and potentially even charge people to play.
